South Texas Aussie Rescue, Inc. (STAR) is a non-profit adoption and referral service, dedicated to placing purebred Australian Shepherds that have been abandoned, neglected, or whose present home can not or will not keep them any longer, into caring, loving and permanent homes.   Due to STAR's limited foster space for dogs needing adoption, we may ask that you keep your dog or find a suitable temporary place for it to live until we either have foster space for the dog, or we can help you to find that perfect permanent home for your dog.  Note: STAR is an adoption and referral agency - should you wish to sell your dog, we suggest you advertise through other channels.

Your STAR volunteer will do his/her best to help you place your dog into a new home, however, we cannot guarantee a successful placement. Your dog's age, temperament, or medical condition might make placement difficult, or the rescue volunteer might not have any suitable applications on file.  Please note, STAR only lists dogs that are spayed/neutered.  If your dog is unaltered, we require the dog be altered in order to allow the dog in the listings.  If the dog is a puppy, the new owner must agree to alter the puppy at six months of age.

STAR is not the same kind of "instant solution" as dropping your dog off at the animal shelter. Owners should expect to spend some time working with the rescue volunteer to find the best, loving, permanent home for their dog.  Email us for more information on finding the right home for your Aussie.

How To List Your Aussie For Adoption

The first step to listing your dog is to fax or email a copy of the dog's most recent vaccinations, HW treatment/preventative and spay/neuter veterinary records along with with a brief description of the dog, the contact person's information, one or two good pictures of the dog (if emailed, preferably in a .jpg format at approx. 300 x 300 pixels), and how you came to have the dog in need and why you now need to find a home for this dog.  Please send faxes to 936-336-7250 or regular mail to Kristi Muck, P.O. Once this information is received, we will review the information and will contact you as to whether or not we are able to take the dog into our rescue program or if we will put the dog on referral and how to best help your dog find a new home.
